AUDIO CREATIVE MEDIATOR MOVING COIL SUT

The Mediator is a plug & play step-up transformer. The Mediator transformers are fully custom built. After a lot of listening and testing we have designed a fantastic sounding step up transformer. The housing is completely CNC machined from a single piece. The transformers are decoupled and encapsulated in a special resin. This ensures optimal decoupling and a low resonance. The RCA cinch connectors are high quality ETI SF-08 connectors. The signal pin of the ETI FS-08 is milled from one piece of 99.99% pure silver (IACS 105). The connector and also the return pin are milled from a single piece of specially treated ultra-pure copper (IACS 102) and then silver-plated.

 

The Mediator sounds sparkling, has a beautiful midrange with lots of detail and space. In short, we think the Mediator is one of the best step-up transformers available on the market.

The mediator is available in three versions :
 

Mediator 20
Step-up ratio = 1:20 with a gain of 27 DB.
The Mediator 20 is suitable for cartridges with an output voltage up to 0.35 mV.
Like an Ortofon SPU Classic.

 

Mediator 10

Step-up ratio = 1:10 with a gain of 20 dB.
The Mediator 10 is suitable for cartridges with an output voltage of 0.35 mV up to about 0,8 mV.

 

Mediator 5

Step-up ratio = 1:5 with a gain of 14 dB.
The Mediator 5 is suitable for cartridges with an output voltage of 0,8 mV to 1 mV.
Like some EMT cartridges.

 

How to calculate the Step-up gain for MC cartridges.
The gain of a step-up is specified in dBs. When you multiply the gain of the step-up with the output voltage of your element, you have the gain at the Phono amplifier.

 

For most elements up to 0.35 mVolt output voltage you need a step-up ratio of 1:20 (27 dB). Above 0.35 mVolt a step-up ratio of 1:10 (20 dB) is recommended.

 

The standard version of the Mediator has ETI Copper connectors. We offer an upgrade with the ETI Kryo Silver connectors

Very musical and absolutely quiet SUT. Quality construction throughout. Purchased a second 1:20 version to replace a Phasemation T-550 that was used with an Etsuro Cobalt Blue (0.25mV) in my secondary system. The T-550 was excellent, but the Mediator was quite a bit better, both sonically and in terms of noise-rejection.

With proper placement, the construction, double shielding, and decoupling really helps eliminate any and all induced hum. The float/ground switch is great feature to have when using tonearm cables with floating or bonded shields.

I’ve been curious for while to try out the Mediator 20. After just approx. 30 hours of listining I can say… I’m happy that I did it. The Mediator gives my system already a more musicaly sounding… or more flow.

For my setup with SPU Master Silver and a GrooveMaster III 12″ it is a perfect match!!!

The Audio Creative Mediator 1:5 (for EMT) 2023 requires a play-in period of about one week. During the break-in period, it sounds very ill-tempered, as is usual with many hi-fi devices.
When played in, it gives free rein to the music. Great resolution, dynamic with very good timing. The whole thing without sharpness. The usual hi-fi blah-blah for a very good product with a great fun factor.
It is a clear improvement on the build in MC Transformer of a Ear Paravicini 864 preamp and on a WLM Phonata Reference phono preamp. The sound source is an EMT 948 turntable with different EMT MC cartridges. Tonearm connection cable Yannis Tome Silvercord Plus. Active loudspeaker with ATC midrange dome.
By the way, the Mediator’s workmanship is excellent.

It was already known that small things are capable of great achievements, this is one of them.
When I received the small jewelry box, I could already see that the finish is beautiful and professional. after the placement in my system, the break-in can start.
break-in is really necessary, and quite long, 50 to 60+ hours, unlike some equipment, the mediator does not take “steps”, but gradually starts to sound more and more beautiful, after 20 hours I notice that he is playing more and more detailed and smoother , towards fifty hours it becomes really brilliant, WOW!!, this is a really special SUT.
I can recommend this SUT for any system, SUPER!!
